Girl meets kitty, it’s a story we will never ever get tired of. Here’s the story of how Lyn and Mara the cat found each other.
“I first met my kitty cat while I was with a friend at a mall’s open parking lot last year, during which I was going through trying times. The first time I saw her, she was just a trembling fist-sized furball. My friend picked her up and she meowed unbelievably loud, that it sounded like the whole mall could hear her. After that initial ear-blasting meow, she became relatively quiet though very feisty.
“My friend and I left her that day, but since I seriously wanted to keep her, I picked her up the next day and named her Mara. The day after that, I searched for the nearest vet clinic. Brought her there and was also lucky to find a feeding bottle. The vet’s first prognosis, however, was that the kitten might not make it.

“But she had me at her first meow, so I brought her to a second vet. I nursed her and eventually brought her to a third vet which is closer to home. We stayed with Mara’s third vet who predicted she had a chance at surviving. You see, Mara was born with hernia in her tummy area. So by her 6th month, I filed a leave of absence and proceeded with Mara’s scheduled operation to correct the hernia and also be spayed simultaneously.
“Mara has grown to be a a lovely, intelligent and very naughty companion of mine – we stay in a condo unit, just the two of us. She loves to jump on to my shoulders when I get out of the bathroom and acts as if she is my hair dresser – this is her daily routine. She sees me to the door every morning when I go to work, and is first out the door when I open it when I get home in the afternoon. Mara is my life though I still want to get another cat to keep her company, the decision lies wholly on Mara’s cat shoulders.
“Having Mara made last year complete and fulfilling for me. I am looking forward to a long life together, too. And yes, I sound like that crazy cat lady but I don’t care, I got happiness and satisfaction every time we’re together.
“Mara’s first vet estimated her age at around 7 to 10 days old at time of rescue. So to add drama and significance to her birthday, I’m pegging her birthdate on February 14 – which means she has turned a year old already! Belated happy birthday, Mara!”

About the contributor: Lyn is a government employee and grew up in a family who likes to get pets in pairs – that is, a puppy and a kitten, so that they grow up thinking they are siblings. She named Mara in honor and memory of her first pet Marro, a marmalade tabby who invited himself one morning into her home and never left.
