Last October 15, 2013, more than a hundred delegates from different walks of life came together in order to support PAWS’ Six-Legged Walkathon. In the second run of the said event, CARA was one of the active participants.
The Six-Legged Walkathon Year 2 was sponsored by Alpo, Maynilad Water, and Sassa. The event, which was held at the grounds of SM Mall of Asia, started at around 7:00 am and ended at around 10:00 am. The said walkathon was PAWS’ way of celebrating the timely signing of the Republic Act 10631, or what is commonly known as the Amended Animal Welfare Act.
With the release of the new act, people caught guilty of animal abuse would be made to pay high fines and would have to suffer longer jail time. Aside from celebrating the said Republic Act, the Walkathon was also PAWS way of enjoining citizens to be more aware of the plight of our furry friends.
In return, Alpo, one of the event sponsors, pledged sacks of dog food to organizations who would be able to field a significant number of participants. With more than 10 participants, CARA was able to secure 40-days’ worth of dog food, in collaboration with other participants, that would be donated to the Laguna Pit Bulls.
