Libreng Kapon Day

 WSD - cat1

The month of February is designated by Humane Society International as the spay/neuter awareness month. The objective is to spread the importance of spay/neuter as a proven means of saving lives of companion animals and community cats (feral, stray, or abandoned). Animal welfare organizations worldwide are encouraged to participate.

World Spay Day, usually held every last Tuesday of February, is held to give an opportunity to provide free S/N especially to low-income families, or communities who feed cat colonies. CARA Welfare Phils has been participating in this event for several years now.

CARA’s “Libreng Kapon Day” was held last February 28, 2014. The clinic staff and volunteers were up and running from the wee hours of the morning until a total of 64 cats were spayed/neutered. Their dedication and hard work made such a feat possible, especially the volunteer veterinarians Dr. Rizalina Zunio, Dr. Danilo Hiceta, Dr. Maricelle Resurreccion, and Dr. Mitchee Salgado who practically worked on our feline friends nonstop. After the operation, volunteers were on hand to manage the post-surgery process, from the cats’ initial waking up out of anesthesia to their eventual return to the respective handlers, to ensure any soiled cages are immediately cleaned.

An area that benefited from the WSD was the San Andres Market area, with the help of three market vendors. These ladies managed to do the catching and transporting of the market cats to the clinic using their carts, and they were likewise on hand to check on the cats’ recovery. It was truly inspiring to see these ladies care for the market cats.

  1. Hi , I just wanna ask how much for your “kapon” for a mixed breed of shih tzu and beagle. I believe he is at 6-7 kg. And where is your location please? Hoping it is near our place, either pasig, mandaluyong, makati or pateros. We’re just worried about our female dogs, we dont want any unwanted pregnancy. Thanks. I’l be waiting for your reply. Thanks .
