Regina is a stray dog who, a few days before this picture was taken, gave birth to 2 puppies (who unfortunately passed away). However, she still had such an abnormally large stomach and was lethargic.
She was brought to our partner vet clinic with the help of the kind people from Pet Warehouse Philippines, and was immediately given an ultrasound. There seemed to be nothing unusual in the findings, but after draining around 2L of fluids from her abdomen, they finally spotted it– she carried dead fetus in her uterus which was slowly poisoning her system.
Upon surgery, the vets found out that her uterus had ruptured. The decaying pups had to be removed and her abdomen had to be flushed out. At the moment, Regina is recovering from her surgery. We cannot imagine the pain and horror she went through as a mother, and this is one of the reasons why we advocate for spaying/neutering and trap-neuter-release (TNR).
Donations in any amount to help Regina would be much appreciated, as her bills have piled up from her surgery and medications. Donations may be made via PayPal and BPI bank deposit.
