Fundraising Friday: WHITEY

CARA Welfare Philippines - Animal Welfare - dog rescue - Whitey

We first featured WHITEY on our Facebook Page’s “Fundraising Friday” last April 2014. He is the beloved pet of a kindly sidewalk vendor who simply could not afford to get him treatment for his TVT cancer. Many were touched by their story and sent help and well-wishes for Whitey.

Whitey responded well to chemotherapy and was soon able to return to his life as Aling Rosy’s happy sidekick.

Then something went wrong. Some time ago, Whitey contracted but survived distemper. Residual symptoms of the disease manifested itself. He developed a twitch and started losing strength in his left hind leg. When we found out about it last month, we decided to take Whitey back to Pet Project.

When we picked him up last Monday (Nov. 3), Whitey’s twitching had become more pronounced and he was thinner and weaker. His right eye was also swollen and red. Most worrisome of all, he had a lump on his neck.

The growth on Whitey’s neck has been removed by the Pet Project vets and we are awaiting the biopsy results. We really hope that his cancer is not back.

As for the leg weakness and twitching, Doc Riza says these are more or less already permanent nerve conditions for Whitey. The redness in his eye, on the other hand, is most probably due to trauma, likely from an accidental collision with a protruding object.

It could be a double-whammy for Whitey, but our partner vets are trying to provide some relief for him. He is being given antibiotic / anti-inflammatory eye drops, as well as vitamin supplements to increase lubrication in his joints.

We are crossing our fingers that everything will turn out alright for Whitey. He deserves to enjoy a quiet, comfortable life. Meanwhile, may we ask for your help again in raising funds for his care? Donations in any amount are welcome and will be much appreciated. To donate to Whitey’s medical fund, please see below. Thank you very much!
