CARA Welfare Philippines was the beneficiary of an advance screening of the highly anticipated film adaptation of David Mitchell’s 2004 novel Cloud Atlas, directed by acclaimed filmmakers Andy and Lana Wachowski and Tom Tykwer. Ayala Malls Cinema, Focus Features and Stillpoint Manila sponsored the private screening at MyCinema in Greenbelt 3 in Ayala Center, Makati City.
Animal lovers and yoga enthusiasts got a first look at the epic Sci-Fi drama, which features an all-star ensemble cast, including Academy Award winners Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Broadbent and Susan Sarandon, to name a few, centered around the theme that “Everything is connected.” This concept is similarly embraced by many animal rights advocates and yoga practitioners who believe in the idea that the actions of an individual can have a ripple effect and impact others because we are all connected.
Cloud Atlas follows six stories spanning across generations–from the 19th century to a post-apocalyptic world in the future–whose souls are somehow intertwined and destined to keep crossing paths in their different lives.
CARA would like to thank Stillpoint Manila’s Rebecca De Villa and Focus Features’ Karla Yuloque for organizing this special benefit screening. All proceeds were donated to CARA’s Laguna Pit Bull Project, a program to help rehabilitate and rehome 170 pit bulls and mixed breed dogs rescued from an illegal dogfighting ring in Laguna.
