Last week was extra busy for the CARA Clinic crew and volunteers. We conducted two “Libreng Kapon” (Free Spay/Neuter) Days for pets from low-income communities near the clinic, as well as pets of sidewalk vendors in Roxas Boulevard. (Our target beneficiaries were those who could not afford even our already-low spay/neuter fees.)
The pet guardians trooped to our Kapon Clinic in Singalong on October 22 (for dogs) and Oct. 25 (cats). Our volunteer vets Dr. Riza Zunio, Dr. Danilo Hiceta and Dr. Patty Layug worked tirelessly for the whole of two days and were able to spay/neuter 30 dogs and 56 cats!
In the receiving and recovery areas, CARA volunteers and clinic staff went around comforting the animals and reassuring the guardians. Some were also in charge of the nailclipping & ear-cleaning which was part of the kapon service.
The Libreng Kapon Day is part of CARA’s observance of World Animal Day and is meant to help address the issue of overpopulation of strays in a humane way.
