Books and coffee go hand in hand as a real indulgence for many. That is why the recent event, Books & Brews, A coffee and Book fair was a huge hit. The 9-day event was held at the Megaworld Eastwood Mall Atrium and lasted from the 4th to 12th of September.
Coffee enthusiasts and book lovers united to hunt for book bargains and drink exquisite coffee. There were many exciting activities such as Book Swap, Story Journey Workshop, Coffee Latte Art, Coffee Samplings, Coffee Painting workshop, Coffee Art demo, Coloring Book or Adults workshop, Visual Storytelling workshop, 3D Street Art, and many more.
National Bookstore and OMF Literature had stalls showcasing bestsellers while other sellers offered art materials and coloring books for adults.
Starbucks, Costa Coffee, Pie Face, Café Avelino and Ferdinand Coffee House offered divine tasting coffee. Who could resist the inviting aroma? I certainly was not able to!
Filipino ReaderCon, Books Please, and Buy the Books facilitated a Book Swap event letting anyone get new books in exchange for their old ones. Another exciting thing was the Blind Date a Book wherein you choose an anonymous book just by “hints and clues” written on them, taking the “Don’t judge a book by its cover” to a whole new level.
Comic fans were also delighted as comic books were also sold at discounted prices.
CARA Welfare Philippines participated by selling books for as low as 10 pesos. Our booth was at Books & Brews from September 4 to 6. We had a wide array of titles from YA, to fiction, cookbooks, children’s books, business and self-help books. These books were donated by fellow volunteers and supporters of CARA to help with fundraising activities.
Buyers were thrilled at how affordable the books were, given that they were all in good condition. Cookbooks and YA were a huge hit for buyers, some were even spotted hugging books to their chest. There were people who showed interest in CARA by inquiring on how to volunteer, donate and adopt.
All proceeds will go to the medical expenses of the CARA rescues. So this event is really a triple treat – great coffee, good finds, and being able to help these loving creatures while enjoying ourselves.
