CARA Welfare Phils. has yet another good reason to celebrate as it successfully launched the last adoption event for the year 2012 called “Adopt A Pet” held at the Fashion Walk of Greenbelt 5 on November 24. The event featured several cats and dogs that have been rescued, fostered and rehabilitated so they can be adopted by their new families and taken into their forever homes.
The event was graced by members and volunteers of CARA, as well as people who are fond of animals and avid supporters of animal welfare. Likewise, it was very heartwarming to see a lot of individuals give benevolent donations for the homeless animals, especially for the Laguna Pitbulls — a group of dogs that have been rescued from their unpleasant ordeal in the hands of a Korean dog-fighting syndicate.
The overall ambiance at the venue was enthusiastic and vivacious, to say the least. This was fueled even more by the irresistible charm of the cats and dogs that have been put up for adoption. Among the lovable feline group that wowed potential adopters and onlookers alike were Bolin, Tampopo, Lily, Dona, Mishka, Mako, Brindle, Curly, Tampopo, Miso, Charity, Milka, Jojo, Tootsie, Bea, Caramel, Pepper, Milkshake, Toni and Figaro. Meanwhile, our sweet and stunning dogs Angelo, Buddy, Sanchai and Lady equally received ample amounts of attention from passersby while they roamed around the Fashion Walk, donning a scarf inscribed with the words “ADOPT ME.” Angelo was truly the crowd’s favorite during the event, with several potential adopters petting him, taking pictures, and even asking if he wanted to go home with them and be the newest addition to their brood. However, the very energetic but sweet Lady made sure that she was also a highlight of the event by tirelessly strolling with her caretaker, playing with the other dogs and barking whenever she feels like it.
It was more than endearing to witness a lot of people inquire and sign up for the adoption of our beloved cats and dogs. So far, three cats have already found their new parents and they are Figaro, Charity and Tootsie. Meanwhile, the adoption of the four dogs (Lady, Sanchai, Buddy and Angelo) is still pending as CARA was swamped with a lot of requests from potential adopters.
In order to enlighten adopters, passersby and onlookers about the event and CARA itself, we gave out pamphlets and displayed various information about the organization, the T/N/R (Trap-Neuter-Return) program, the Animal Welfare Act, and the Laguna Pit Bulls Rehabilitation Project. A table was also set up solely for a few merchandise such as cute ceramic cats and shirts promoting animal welfare. CARA volunteers were also readily available to answer any queries about the adoption process, or even how to join CARA and be a part of the change that we are making in the lives of these abandoned animals.
As French poet and novelist Anatole France once said, “Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.” We are very grateful to all those who devoted their time with us and shared their love and compassion for these animals! Remember: “Adopt, don’t shop!”
