Marley Chose Me

CARA - pet adoption story - Marley

A dog was reported to CARA last October 2014. She was stinky, had matted fur, snaggletooth and tongue sticking out.

When I saw her in CARA’s Fund raising Friday post, I felt sorry for her. I also wanted to take care of her. I wanted to be the one to make up for all her suffering.

So, when Marley was featured as ready for adoption, I expressed my interest right away. I was so nervous during our first meeting. What if Marley won’t like me? What if she growls?

During that first meeting, I was happy to see that her adoption post was accurate. She loves belly rubs – that entire time that I was talking to her foster mom, I was on the floor rubbing her belly. She was with other dogs and they were all staring at me. Probably sizing me up to know if I was good enough for Marley. It felt like the most important interview in my life.

l took her home on January 1, 2015 – Marley and I started the year right. I always thank her for choosing me. Out of all those who were interested in adopting her, Marley chose me. I made a commitment to show her that she made the right choice. Everyday, I want her to feel that I deserve to be with her.
