#FundraisingFriday: When CARA friend Nina first saw the thin dog lying on the street, she thought it was just sleeping. Hours later, she became worried when saw him still lying on the same spot. The dog was barely breathing, could not stand by itself and did not even respond to the smell of the chicken that Nina waved under its nose. Nina was able to get help from a kindly tricycle driver who helped her carry the very weak dog and bring it to a nearby vet.
When they picked the dog up, they saw blood on the pavement. At the vet it was determined that the dog (named “NINO” by Nina) had a fractured skull — someone had given him a blow to the head. Nino was also already emaciated and diagnosed with intestinal worms.
Nino was transferred to our partner clinic Pet Project where he is now being treated. He gets supplements for his anemia, and nerve supplements to put some strength into his muscles. The good news: He is starting to walk again. Better yet, his skull fracture is healing well. We are hopeful that he will be well enough soon to go to the new foster home which Nina found for him.
For now though, his treatment continues. (The supplements must also be given continuously even after Nino goes to his foster.)
