Last October 25, 26 and November 8, 2014, CARA Welfare Philippines (and its Laguna Pit Bulls Project group) were given the opportunity to host a seminar for dog ethologist Dr. Jenna Kiddie of the Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge, England.
Dr. Kiddie is a well-known lecturer on Animal Behavior and Welfare. She has an MSc in Applied Animal Behavior and Welfare from the University of Edinburgh and a PhD: Assessing the Quality of Life in Kenneled Dogs from Royal Veterinary College. Aside from being a pet behavior counselor and an author of a wide range of articles regarding animal welfare, she used to be a member of the behavior expert panel of International Cat Care (formerly known as the Feline Advisory Bureau).
We called the seminar “JENNA KNOWS: Seminars On Dog Behavior and Handling by Behavior Expert Dr. Jenna Kiddie” and it was held at the Laguna Pit Bulls (LPB) Center. It was a three-day seminar that covered a wide scope of topics that proved useful for our caretakers and guests at the Center. Topics like dog ethology, behavioral differences of dogs and wolves, the learning theory, dog to dog and dog to human interactions and a lot more were part of the curriculum. Vets and animal welfare volunteers were invited to be part of the event. Representatives from the Animal Kingdom Foundation as well as volunteers from the Pasig Pound attended the November 8 lecture. There were also some representatives from the Pet Community Veterinary Clinic who were present.
During the November 8 seminar, the participants were given the opportunity to have a quick tour of the LPB Center. They met some of our beloved LPBs and had the opportunity to take them for a walk.

At the end of the seminar, Dr. Kiddie was presented a certificate of appreciation for conducting the seminar and for a remarkable effort in promoting animal welfare across the globe.
We were pleased to have her share her knowledge about animals and hope to see her again, soon. She has taught us tons of things that will not only be helpful in handling and caring for the dogs in the center but will be equally helpful in our daily lives with our fur-babies.
Thank you so much Dr. Kiddie and we hope you continue sharing the amazing things you have discovered through your experiences. We look forward to seeing you again!
