This is a pit bull?

YES, THAT’S A PIT BULL. The dog lovers among you may recognize that look. That’s your very own fan club right there — it’s generally the kind of face you will see when you have a dog that’s well-cared for,  fulfilled, happy, and content. (Of course, it can also be the look doggie gives you as he waits for you to drop that treat from your hand. )

But is it true that pit bulls can be nice and sweet one moment, then “snap” and turn on you the next? Truth is, they’re no different from any other dog. Those seemingly “out-of-the-blue” moments actually have warning signs and it’s our job as responsible caretakers to recognize those signs of stress, discomfort, agitation, etc. Learn to “read” a dog’s body language and know whether he’s really enjoying that belly rub or has had enough petting, hugs, noisy kids, and exposure to other dogs or pets. And please try not to startle him when he’s eating or sleeping. Set him up for success and you’ll end up with a confident and secure family member for life.
