How can you become a CARA volunteer?

CARA new volunteers

We have simplified our process. It’s so much easier now to fulfill your calling to promote animal welfare in the country through volunteer membership with CARA Welfare Philippines.

Follow these steps:

  1. Fill out and submit the application form. Click here.
  2. Attend the CARA volunteer orientation. You will be notified of the date upon completion of the membership application form.
  3. Once your membership has been approved, you will be sent an email with the link to the CARA volunteers Facebook group. This is where you can keep up to date with all the latest projects. Senior volunteers regularly call out for volunteers so please make sure you stay tuned.

CARA new volunteers

Once you become a CARA volunteer, we expect you to be ACTIVE and PROACTIVE. Driving animal welfare in the Philippines is extremely hard and even soul destroying. We have to all pull together to achieve our common goal. This means if you have an idea, do not expect others to carry out the work for you but you can encourage other volunteers to work with you. You will have team leaders to guide and inspire you.

CARA’s Mission and Vision

Please take note that CARA’s main mission is to promote compassion for animals and responsible pet ownership through grass-roots education, trap-neuter-return programs in various communities, and affordable pet care through its low-cost vet clinic in Mandaluyong.

We hold awareness and pet adoption events regularly in partnership with schools and corporate institutions. We also aim to drive policies that will encourage LGUs to implement no-kill pounds, where unclaimed animals shall be placed for adoption to qualified persons instead of euthanized as a matter of course.*

Our biggest project to date is the care and rehabilitation of over 200 pit bulls rescued from a dogfighting syndicate in 2012. We still have 80 pit bulls waiting to be adopted. You can find out more about this project through this link.

Although CARA does rescue distressed animals, we only do so on a case-to-case basis–only if reporters are willing to cooperate. We believe in ‘responsible rescues,’ which means we only rescue if we are able to care for the animal from start to finish. We believe in encouraging YOU TO TAKE ACTION in partnership with other volunteers.

Again, please note that CARA is a VOLUNTEER GROUP. We are not paid nor obliged to do anything. Volunteers are people who not only care but have decided to TAKE ACTION. We do what we do in spite of the hardships and limitations for love of animals.

Let us all work together because only if we do can we create more success stories that will inspire others and create a lasting impact on animal welfare. Although we usually get a steady stream of new volunteers, sadly, very few are able to sustain their volunteer work.

We hope that you will be among the stellar ones with the dedication to stick to this journey together with us.

We hope to volunteer with you soon!

*The law actually states that LGUS are supposed to place unclaimed animals for adoption, as stated in Republic Act No. 9482 “Anti-Rabies Act of 2007.”
