  Humane Education Module

Humane Education

"To educate our people, and especially our children, to humane attitudes and actions toward living things is to preserve and strengthen our national heritage and the moral values we champion in the world". ~ John Fitzgerald Kennedy

Humane Education can be defined as "a process that encourages an understanding of the need for compassion and respect for people, animals and the environment and recognizes the interdependence of all living things."

From the animal protection perspective, humane education is the long-term preventative strategy that will bring about a lasting, large-scale improvement in the quality of animals' lives. It can be an effective - and relatively low cost - strategy for dealing with animal abuse.

Through our program we aim to cultivate in children a spirit of kindness to animals. They are made aware of the numerous responsibilities, costs and time commitment associated with caring for an animal. Ultimately, our goal is to empower students to speak up for animals and not be passive observers to their abuse. Instilling such a foundation in children will make them just, kind and compassionate individuals in every respect.

We alter our session content depending on the age level we are presenting to.

"The Kindergarten Euro section recently welcomed visitors from CARA (Compassion and Responsibility for Animals) who came to talk about the importance of caring for animals for life. The children were able to meet a rescued dog and a neutered cat; and through the stories of these animals learned about pet ownership and the effects of irresponsible behavior."
